🌿 Winter Skincare Routine: My Personal Tips for Radiant Skin
Winter in Alaska is breathtakingly beautiful—but it’s also incredibly harsh on the skin. As the temperatures drop and the air becomes drier, many of us find our skin feeling tight, flaky, and uncomfortable. I’ve been there too. Over the years, I’ve experimented with countless products and routines, and I’ve finally found a simple, natural approach that works wonders for me.
In this post, I’m sharing my personal winter skincare routine—tried and tested in Alaska’s unforgiving climate. These aren’t just tips; they’re actual practices that have transformed my skin from dry and dull to hydrated and glowing. Whether you’re battling the cold winds of the north or just looking for ways to keep your skin happy this winter, I hope you find something here that resonates with you.
Let’s dive in.

1. Add a Humidifier to Your Bedroom
A humidifier is a game-changer for both skin and sleep. The added moisture in the air helps prevent your skin from drying out overnight, especially in Alaska’s dry winter climate.
2. Apply a Natural Moisturizer Before Bed
I use our Natural Beeswax Lotion Bars with shea butter and jojoba oil. I apply them before bed and sleep with them on. The result? I wake up with skin that doesn’t feel dry or chapped.
3. Lock in Moisture After Washing
Be sure to dry your hands thoroughly after washing and apply moisturizer immediately. This simple step locks in moisture and prevents dryness. For a fast-absorbing moisturizer, I use our apricot oil salves (made with rosehip oil or sea buckthorn fruit oil).
4. Avoid Scalding Hot Water
I’ve stopped taking scalding hot showers. Now I keep the water warm, which makes my skin much happier. The same goes for hand washing—warm water is much less drying than hot.
5. Exfoliate Gently with Almond Flour
I gently exfoliate a couple of times a week with almond flour. It’s seriously the best exfoliator! It leaves a trace of almond oil, so I don’t need moisturizer afterward.
6. Use a Mild, Gentle Soap
I switched to a mild, gentle soap that cleanses without stripping my skin. This has made a huge difference in maintaining my skin’s natural moisture barrier.
